Indian Wrestler Vinesh Phogat Is Disqualified From Gold Medal Match

The disqualification of an Indian wrestler, Vinesh Phogat, from the gold medal bout at the Paris Olympics was announced by the Indian Olympic Association. She failed to meet the required weight by a few grams. Phogat had been at the forefront of protests against a sports official accused of sexual harassment in India last year. She was set to compete against Sarah Hildebrandt from the United States in the 50-kilogram weight class. Phogat’s disqualification resulted in Hildebrandt now competing against Cuba’s Yusneylis Guzmán Lopez for the gold medal.
