The fate of two astronauts aboard the International Space Station may soon be determined after NASA announced a formal review to assess the safety of Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft. The review will determine whether the Starliner vehicle is safe enough to return the astronauts to Earth or if SpaceX’s Crew Dragon spacecraft will be used instead. Issues such as helium leaks and faulty thrusters have plagued the Starliner’s mission. If the Starliner is not certified, it could lead to additional financial losses for Boeing. The review’s results will be shared by NASA after its conclusion on Saturday.
